Making the Good Society
This month we published two new episodes of Making the Good Society, our original video series where we ask progressive leaders and thinkers about their vision for a good society that is humane, just, and democratic.
In Standing Up for Democracy with Matthias Ecke, the German Social Democrat and Member of the European Parliament, explains what’s at stake as the far-right surges in Germany and across the globe.
And in Tenant Rights and Union Power with Sharlene Henry, the co-chair of York South-Weston Tenant Union connects labour and tenant struggles, and explains why union solidarity is central to winning affordable housing.

What’s New in Perspectives Journal
This month in Perspectives Journal, we published conversations and op-eds on the big ideas shaping our political moment.
On the Perspectives Journal podcast we shared Naomi Klein’s address to the 2025 Panamerican Congress, The Rise of End-of-the-World Fascism and Resistance from the Global South.
Other new episodes of the Perspectives Journal podcast include:
- Canada’s Tax Haven Dilemma Jared Walker why cracking down on tax havens would be a boon to public services—and why austerity is a choice, not a necessity.
- Carney’s Cuts Economist Angella MacEwen explains what’s really behind Mark Carney’s call for “efficiency” and why these cuts are anything but necessary.
- Activists Make History Sandy Hudson joins Peggy Nash to talk about the founding of Black Lives Matter – Toronto and her new book, Defund: Black Lives, Policing, and Safety for All.
New op-eds this month show where care and justice collide. In Death, Taxes, and Building Canada’s Social Infrastructure, Broadbent Fellow Danyaal Raza reminds us that taxes aren’t just inevitable—they’re essential to a healthier, fairer country. And in Economic Liberation: A Gender-Based Case for Basic Income, Alexandra Ages and Parul Kanwar show how a basic income guarantee could be a lifeline for women trapped in cycles of violence and precarity.
