Mutual Aid Fund

The Broadbent Institute is excited to announce its partnership with Vancity Community Foundation, supporting the Institute’s work through the Mutual Aid Fund.

The Fund supports:

  • Non-profit journalism that advances in-depth investigations on topics impacting working-class and marginalized Canadians.
  • Training emerging leadership that helps to develop early to mid-career organizers and community leaders committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive society.

The Mutual Aid Fund is a community-guided fund that channels unrestricted resources to grassroots initiatives responding to urgent needs and systemic challenges. Grounded in the Vancity Community Foundation’s vision of connected just communities, the fund supports collective well-being through relational justice, shared stewardship, and community-defined priorities.

The Mutual Aid Fund is a collaborative effort between Vancity Community Foundation and the Broadbent Institute which allows for contributions to certain Institute initiatives to be eligible for tax benefits as charitable contributions.

The Mutual Aid Fund includes support for beat reporting on labour, health, drug policy, social and economic equality, disinformation, right-wing extremism, and civic institutions.

Contributions to the Mutual Aid Fund will also be directed towards the defence of journalists and independent journalism from ongoing and costly targeted attacks.

In addition, funding will be mobilized to sustain leadership and training programs, like the Emerging Leaders Program, that build capacity in equity deserving communities and support community-led projects that advocate for a more just, inclusive, green and equitable society.

Donations to this fund are eligible for tax charitable tax receipts from Vancity Community Foundation. Private donor information is managed and maintained by Vancity Community Foundation alone.
